Some of you may have read the posts regarding a couple off ill horses on my yard and the little pony with peritonitis? Well, although the vet said it WAS that, they never did a tap and he's since improved a LOT, so Im guessing it wasnt peritonitis or he'd probably be dead now.
Anyway, my sis noticed the other day that his tail is paralysed. I looked this morning and it's totally dead! Still warm, so not ACTUALLY dead, but it's just hanging and you can swing it around and lift it right up without him moving it in any way!
He had a lot of rectal exams when he had the colic - could that have caused it? Or maybe a tail bandage left on for too long? (despite being told numerous times to take it off and my sister eventually going in and removing it herself!) I've told the owner, and my sis told her dad, but they dont seem overly bothered - just said they'll mention it to the vet.
Has anyone had a horse with a paralysed tail before? Did it get better? If not, what happened?
Also, while Im at it, ponio also has some sort of lesion/blistering on the bottom of his tongue (if he was a cow/pig/sheep, Id think it was F&M!) He's been stabled for quite a while now and has taken to licking/eating his door frame. But this lesion is on the underside of his tongue? Possible that he licks with that side like one of my mares does, but i havent noticed him doing it. Any ideas?
And finally, he had quite a lot of injections. One of the injection sites is now a big ball! Is this ok? Will it sort itself out?
Thank you for any advice! I'll pass it on to the owner (not that she cares very much!!)
