Has anybody got any good tips for tail plaiting? It's the very top of it I find difficult to get looking smart as the hairs are too short! Many thanks.
we had the same problem with Toto so we raked his tail and he looks a lot smarter now, we used a proper tail rake but you can pull them if your horse will let you
Hair gel, hair setting lotion (the sort grannies use with curlers for a shampoo and set) or there is the Lynn Russell range from Nettex and its called something like quik plait. Not cheap at 9.99, but it's very good and will make the shortest hairs lie flat.
Don't plait - use a rake to give a pulled appearance. Far easier, and also the tail is easier to keep clean - no long hairs to attract the goodies.....
Sounds gross, but I use vaseline, really gungy but it holds it in place really well, I always find gel is too slippery to work with so this is my alternative, I know a few people who use wax, but Im too tight to pay for it!
I used to have a friend that secured the top first bits with a kirby grip - get two bits from either side, then get a bit from the middle - wrap the two bits from the side once round the middle bit and then shove a kirby grip downwards....jeesh it sounds crap written down and makes more sense when your stood looking at a tail!
Hope that kinda might make sense - if not - oh well!
