does anyone have any hints or tips for getting a really neatly pulled tail? Mine are pulled and always look well.....'ok' not like you see some of the stunning ones out and about. Just wondering if i'd missed any secret in doing it right!

Will be watching this post with interest... currently pulling my boys tail (for the first time! I'm not great at them!) and any tips to get it looking good will be much appreciated!

I find those tail rake things give a good result, but you have to maintain it.

I think that quite a lot of pulled tails are actually shaved down each side of the dock before a show/ comp

It might look good for a day, for but I wouldn't like to deal with the regrowth!

most people don't take enough off the sides - once you've pulled what you think from the sides, comb out the top layer to the sides - so it looks from a Christmas tree (!) and take the ends off the outstanding hairs so that they're flush to the edges of the dock. then comb flat. make sure you go low enough - to suit the shape of the horse's bum and the thickness of the tail - no hard and fast rule for that!

then bandage! keep a tail bandage on for an hour a day- keeps the hairs flat.
