my cobs tail is very thick(so much that when i bought a tail guard for traveling i had to sew extra velcro on so it would reach round)anyway i have today purchased a pet grooming rake after reading about them on hho.so,how do you thin a tail with them for a tidy pulled look?instructions please.

Have you tried pulling it in the usual way? With a thick tail it'll look much smarter. Tail rakes on thick tails seem to give a clipped or cut look unfortunately.

Obviously if your cob objects to pulling, a rake might be the best solution, but I've never managed to make a good job of a tail with a rake, so you wouldn't want my advice!

Just 'brush' it down, alternating between either side. take it slowlya nd stand back to see the full effect.
IT gives a good finish I find

Same as Virtual - we have always managed to pull the tails - sometimes this can take a week or so, but the rakes seem OK on horses with not too thick tails, but cobs always look better when a tail is properly pulled.

However, it is defnitely better than leaving it as a bog brush!!!!
