Hi all!

Myself and 2 friends are toying with the idea of taking our own horses on holiday in the UK this year, instead of our usual 'summer' holiday. Has any one done this? Can you recommend anywhere? We're from Kent, so will only want to travel within England (Wales and Scotland a bit far i think).

Thanks!

We did the Mary Towneley Loop, which is a 46 mile hack and stayed in 3 different places that could all accommodate the horses. It was great fun and the places we stayed were all really good.

Might be a bit far for you but as for taking the horses away with you I would recommend it, it took a bit of planning and i did stress a little but once we got there it was amazing

I can recommend Little Lodge Farm in Thetford, Norfolk. We took 10 horses there 2 years ago and are going back this summer. Horses get paddocks & stable, accomodation in Log Cabins or Mobile Homes. Great riding in the forest and a large menage and cross country course. From here you can have a day out at a beach too. Compared to all the others we looked at this one is fantastic value.

We went to the New Forest. We stayed in a cottage which had stables and fields. It was really cheap and in a perfect location. The local pub did amazing food too which is a bonus.

If you are interested I will dig out the contact details of the place we stayed. It was the holiday of a lifetime!!!

I have been on a couple once to the New forest (the whole yard went) which was nice but i much preferred going to Okehampton (Devon) we could ride all over dartmoor, there were woods and lane's to ride (which we always found quiet) and you could go riding for hours and hours it was beautiful. The farmer also let us ride in his field to school (and jump the hay bales not sure he knew about the jumping though!

Another vote from me for Little Lodge Farm. I have been there 3 times now and will be going back at least once this year. The hacking is just excellent! And nice to cool off in the river (see black horse in my sig).
You can also take a tent or stay in your lorry - this makes the cost cheap as chips!
The mobile home and log cabins are great, but there's nothing like waking up and looking straight out at your horse in the morning!

I can really recommend Mid-Wales. I know that you wanted to stick to England but there really is some great riding on the Welsh/Shropshire border. it depends really how well your horses travel but if they travel well and you are going for say a week then maybe its worth it to get some really good riding.
Last year I rode on the Offa's Dyke and into the Radnorshire Hills with Your Horse Adventures. They are a small company and I can thoroughly recommend them.

They planned our riding for us and made all the arrangements for us... it was great we just turned up with our horses and they did the rest. We had marked maps and brilliant descriptions to follow but I think they will guide you if you want them too. We stayed with lovely hosts in different accommodation each night and the riding was just to die for..........it was such a brilliant holiday that we are going back this year and this time we are going to ride for 5 days right across wales with them .........mmm can hardly wait.

Good luck and do post with what you decide to do.. i just love taking my horse on holiday..I think it will become an annual event for me from now on.. I'm hooked.. anyone else?
