...to a meet-up in a strange place with anything up to 90 dogs in attendance, including many intact males, and camping for four days. Yes, no, why?

I thought it would have been a huge no-no but someone's just posted on the forum that's arranging the meet that their bitch will be on heat and everyone seems totally cool about it.

Hell no, never ever ever!!! It would be a pain in the neck for everyone concerned - the bitches owner, the owners of entire dogs...:o

Does this mean you are going to a meet up which ISNT a HHO one though

Yep, I'm too good for you lot these days. :D

It's one of the husky forums that I've lurked on for ages but never posted (until I needed to wheedle for an invitation!), their annual meet is happening literally five minutes up the road from me so I'm just popping up for a few hours on one of the days. :)

Being a husky thing everything is conducted on-lead, naturally, but I can't help but think it must be a complete pain in the arse. Though it's mostly pet dogs there's a few hardcore sled dogs going, really loopy high-drive intact males, it can't be fair on them to have to camp out with a fruity bitch for four nights.

Tbh the hairy thing is still entire (he has an issue with the vet or maybe the vet has issues with him ;) )

But he has lived in a house with four in seasons females (not all at the same time! ) and not noticed, although they where kept well apart, and it took a lot of back door ducking and shuffling to keep them apart

IN all fairness though it canthe situation could get easily out of hand with so many dogs in one spot, although I bet the workers are more settled then the pets. .

If you want to, why not. Assuming that entire male dogs are allowed, entire females should also be allowed. Both sides should be able to control their dogs in public otherwise that dog should be sent home/taken away. IMO any entire dogs that cannot be controlled by a good owner around a bitch in heat should not be entire anyway!

I have to agree with SusieT- why are entire males ok to go but not entire females?

Perhaps it is just a dog thing, it seems the opposite to the horseworld where it is entire males that are frowned upon.

Thing is a lot of these aren't 'normal' dogs - very few of them are trained to walk to heel, for instance, and will be lunging about in harnesses - so some of the control element is removed IMO.

I just can't help but think that it will add to the general chaos that is inevitable at this kind of thing. :p I am prepared to be pleasantly surprised though.

So they will be in harness.. so restrained. And if they are not able to work near bitches in heat they are not imo suitable to be working entire dogs.

Personally I wouldn't, but thats only because I wouldn't want my bitch harassed. Its also very annoying when entire males do all the boy doggy thing to get to said female - wether that be chewing their lead or marking territory, or heaven help fighting with other entire males. You couldn't relax!
However, if the dogs are obiedient, the owners are very watchful and all has a way of being apart and running smoothly, then there should be no reason why entire dogs and bitches can't mix!

Entire bitches are fine walking/socializing out (just not when in season).

I work with a pack of hounds (all are entire) but the 'hot' bitches are removed from the pack til they are out of season.
It's called being a responsible owner!
Why are the male dogs getting the blame here? (I only own bitches) I know a couple of bitches that when in season just stick the rear infront of any dog be it male or female!

It is considerate doogy law that you do not take inseason bitches out.
It's only 3 & a half weeks twice a year.
My bitch typically falls in season in the middle of the shooting season & I will not be arrogant & take her shooting & say to the lads, that it is there problem to control their male dogs.

My girl is only entire as she will be mated this next season she has. If she wasn't good enough to breed then I would of spayed her. Would me alot less hassle for me & we could have more fun picking up!
