What a start to the New Year. My friend in bits. Her rescue dog, chihuahua (sp?) who she's had for 2 years, attacked her son (13) AND her daughter (23) today. He has previously attacked her but she has stuck with it.....no-one can ever judge this decision as right or wrong until they have been in those shoes, I have (see previous posts circa. May).

So I have just arranged the deed. Nice.

It is going to be traumatic for all involved as he gets so scared, last time he had a jab he had to be put in the crush cage :(

My OH and I took our new rescue dog on last Monday (see previous posts re naming of said dog) and now I am thinking, Oh God lets not go down this road again. However, so far so good no signs of any sides.

Oh dear, what an awful chain of events! I'm guessing he has maybe found Christmas and New Year pretty stressful and has lashed out in fear/confusion :confused:

Would not even begin to judge your decision on this, so all I can say is sleep tight litle man and hope it goes as 'well' as it can :( x
 
What a horrible decision to have make but a brave one.

Just a thought, would it be easier to have the vet come out to the house to pts? Less tramatic all round maybe?

A friend of mine had her dog PTS this week, and it was very nervous of the vet and injections. the vets gave her some sedatives to put in his feed a few hours before the vet came to the house, which made it all easier...
 
hi all and thanks. well it is nearly 1pm and he is still running around, owner cant face it. we called the kennels where he came from (where mine is from too) and they have basically agreed that she cannot have a dog that is unsafe. sooooooo we are now looking at Tuesday after the behaviourist has been spoken to but it is looking like the kennels will take him back and do the deed.

I agree about bringing the vet to the house but as my OH who is a vet nurse stated, it is too dangerous, which is bizarre because he is small, but sooo quick I guess.

Hmmm the other talk we had today was "replacing" him. She feels like she has let him down, she hasnt, we have both been to socialising classes, had behaviourists etc, and is dreading a quiet house so we are going to possibly look at some quieter, older canine friends at the kennels on Tuesday.

God the kennels are taking him back???? That's going to add to his trauma tenfold. Sorry Tchamp, know he's not your charge, but surely sedatives and home PTS would be a kinder end to the wee chap?
 
It does seem rather sad he is going to have more trauma. I do know chis can be little sods, I had one who guarded me like a tiger, would have been a problem if he had been GSD size, so if she feels she can't cope then pts is the right decision, but surely some sedatives in his feed before vet comes, or failing that, scruff him for a general sedative injection then pts when he is out of it. I know that sounds harsh, and is, but it is no doubt what would happen at the kennels, and at least he would be in a familar environment if his owner was there.
 
Agreed totally MM.

If he came from rescue, which it sounds like he did, his issues are totally someones fault and not his. He deserves a bit of stability and a little kindness in his last hours I feel.
