This is no more than an idea at the moment, I haven't even spoken to the necessary people, but ...

I live and work in Edinburgh, Jazz is kept on DIY livery at a yard about 3 miles from our house.
My parents (and OH's parents) live in Ayrshire, it's about a 75 mile drive from ours to theirs and takes about 1.5 hours.

OH and I both finish up at work on Christmas Eve, our original plan was to go through to the parents' for a couple of days at Christmas, come back, go back through for a couple of days at New Year, and then come back to Edinburgh a couple of days before going back to work on 6 Jan.

It's a lot of driving about and I'm worried it might kill what should be a relaxing break. Also, I'll only get to see Jazz for a couple of days at a time - I haven't been off work and not away on holiday for that length of time since I bought him so it would be nice to spend more time with him over the hols.

Long ramble, short question - am I daft to be considering asking my friend (who runs the yard my sister keeps her horse at) if there's any possibility I could keep him at her place over the holidays? It's really close to my parents so I could see Jazz/ride every day and we wouldn't have to go back and forth.

Obviously would be dependent on a) friend giving me the ok and b) arranging transport, but any opinions welcome at this point!

I've been looking at a nice 7.5t lorry with living.

My otherhalf likes his outdoor pursuits, my plan was (and i was deadly serious) to buy the lorry and when we travel we can take her ladyship with us and we live in the lorry.......the forum rules wont allow me to repeat what was said but it didn't go down too well and i can safely say we WILL NOT be taking the horse on holiday with us :-(

I was considering this for this year and wanted to get everyone together in a self catering barn that had a paddock for the poneh so that I wasn't relying on someone else over the holidays.

I'd say go for it :D

Personally I like your plan

However few points to consider.
One, it's your holiday, so do you really want to muck out etc? If you can get part livery or something it may be better!
Two, what does your oh think about this plan? Any free time you have will most likely go on the horse.... Not him or activities involving him!

Mucking out doesn't bother me in the slightest :) when I had horses before I always loved going up to the yard on Christmas day. OH thinks its a good idea (mainly to save us going back and forward!), I had Dylan on DIY for the first couple of years we were together so he understands how important my pony time is :D

So bloomin get it sorted woman. Sounds perfect if your pony will be ok with it :). Saves travelling. you spend time with pony and with hubby and family. so get sorted and photos please :)

If you horse travels well and settles ok in a different yard I'd say definitely go for it. After all, there are lots of places these days where you can take your own horse for riding holidays. Hope your sister's yard has the space.
