Taking a horse to a southern uni - oxford?

At the moment I have my horse with me at a northern university, doing a BSc. I've seen a masters I like the sound of, but it's in Oxford, which I think is going to cost a lot more for livery. Also, are there any places to keep a horse near to the Uni/city?

I'm not sure what my other options would be. My OH is moving to Derby, but I couldn't ask him to take the horse for a year if I decide to go to Oxford. I could put him on loan, but I don't know if I'd trust anyone far away. Unless a sharer could be found in Oxford I suppose.

Just looking for ideas/what anyone in Oxfordshire knows about the average price of livery?

Livery is no more expensive here than anywhere else. EG: I am in OX18, my livery is £4 per day, bedding included. They are in barn stables, so huge, a lot of people only come up once a day as they work and we have a system that all horses are hayed at 6.30am, 12pm, 4.30pm and 10pm at no extra charge (you supply the hay and have it outside in baskets).

Yards that I have been at around the Oxford area have been about £35pw DIY, the one I am at now includes hay and straw for that. i don't know how that compares with where you are now

That sounds ok. I pay £20 for summer as he lives out 24/7 but it's a large centre with v.good facilities. Winter is £30 including hay.

Weezy - your yard sounds great, I might just send him down on the train now How close is it to the city centre? Are there many yards close to the city? And is there an availability of sharers just in case?



Thanks I assumed the south would be loads more expensive. It's just because my uncle pays for my livery, and he has a strict no more than £40 a week policy! Although if I did a masters he might be more proud and up it, haha. I'm just trying to get all my options sorted so I can make an informed decision when it comes to it.
