I've two horses, one barefoot and one shod. Both are out muzzled at night and in with haylage during the day. They both get a small feed of chaff. The barefoot horse also gets pro hoof and micronised linseed. The old horse just gets a broad spectrum vitamin and mineral supplement.
I'm going to take the old horses hind shoes off shortly. I think it'll help her circulation when she is stabled more through the winter, and because she is mildly arthritic behind. She has good feet. And still doing a reasonable amount of work.
So do I need to change her diet to similar to the other horse or keep her the same. She will remain shod in front for now. Thanks

We took shoes off the old mares last year. We did fronts first and then took hinds in the winter when the ground was soft. They are both on retired though. I'd add the linseed too personally.

Yes go for it. If still ridden, back feet do well really quickly I have found.

Can't advise on diet.
