I saw a young rider advertising for a share so wrote and asked if she would be interested in sharing one of my ponies. I have show jumps and next year x contry jumps, grass livery on a farm. Mainly as the pony has no rider now my youngest daughter has moved onto horses... so the pony is doing nothing.

we disused the mare and the riders ability. fine

Now she writes back that she want to part loan, but move the horse to her yard,so she can ride with her instructor and her friends. But only wants part loan cost and responsiblilty

But doesnt say who is going to look after the pony for the rest of the loan or pay the extra to keep it at this very expensive yard..... I suppose I am the mug supposed to pick up the extra work and the bill :( Especially when I have my own place to keep running and my other ponies.....

Full loan maybe but not for a part loan?

what do you think

Sounds like a classic timewaster, just walk away and certainly do not bend over backwards for her.

Stick to what you want and send her on her merry delusional way ;)

Absolutely not, I have never heard of this happening. Unless of course the girl rides at a very high level and will add to the value of the animal. This sounds unacceptable, the horse stays with you unless she is willing to full loan and by now she would have put me right off...

I may of course be very harsh and others may have a positive story to tell here....

Extracting the urine, unless she's on her way to Olympic gold & will double ponies value. And even then, unless you plan to sell the extra cost is of no benefit. If she's otherwise perfect, tell her that instructor can continue with her at your yard, although I'd always be expecting future pee takes. If not tell her to jog on.

I'd let her know the basic conditions.
1. Part-loan or share (I'd do share to keep proper care of horse until you know whether she's capable)
2. Cost
3. That the horse is staying put
4. Rider insurance required (anyone taking the pee is straight on contract with insurance to cover ones arse)

Let her know that none of these are negotiable (unless cost etc is) and carry on. If negotiation starts then let her know that you don't think that the agreement would suit both of you, thank you but goodbye.

I'd also be inclined to put a condition that you must see a test ride too, with or without instructor (may be useful with to have a word about experience etc).

I think you may have toys thrown out of pram and then she'll walk away.

Proper taking the piss NL ..... Walk away hun ..... you certainly don`t need that. Which pone is she interested in ? ..... I`d tell her your place or not at all

Hi Daisy ..... Its for Kira she is too light and young for me to ride. She is lightly backed just needs a rider to work with her now daughter has her own horse.

I have wrote to two friends advertising as riders/helpers to see if they want to ride her and help with some of the other ponies on weekends and holidays :) So they might well reply.

When I was young without a pony i would have mucked out all week to be allowed to ride ...

I know how you feel. I've had nothing but time wasters.
Tell her no - your horse so its on your terms. Either it stays within your terms, or she can find some other mug!

You and me both, and i often did as well ... helped at the riding stables in exchange for a ride.

Kira ....... <3 <3 <3 ...... she is bootiful, that girl is so silly for missing up a chance to share her. Well hang on in there, some one will turn up. Have you put an ad on G-ups page ... might be worth doing x

What is this G ups page? do you have a link?

Can you write back and just mention who will be looking after/paying cost for pony while she is sitting on her cloud in cuckoo land.

I'm some rare occasions this may suit some people.

But really how cheeky.

Yeah you pay the costs but she has the fun!
Like you said who is going to do the rest of the looking after?

Yep p take! Maybe she doesn't realise this would not be beneficial to you, she is young so maybe hasn't really thought about it, oh well moving on to someone with some sense I think!

I have given up on her :) I know the one I need riding is only lightly backed but she would have had the chance to also ride my other ponies including County Level safe sane and a good jumping,WHP, x country ponies also.

I am not looking for someone to do all the hard work she would have had the pony as long as she wanted it. As she will remain with me ridden or not. I just though some young rider would enjoy her and have fun bringing her on.

She is a Sec D rising 4 so ready to go on and be ridden and maybe do some local competitions from this spring onwards..

She was advertising for a part loan so may naturally just think the pony would go to her yard? Also, if she's young she may just not have thought it through. I would just say because you have your own place it would be pointless pony going elsewhere unless it was full loan which, you may or may not want to do.

If she's prepared to do part loan at yours for a while at least you'll be able to see how she is with pony, whether or not they get on and whether or not you like and trust her.

Have to say even with part loan I'd never expect to move horse, only with full and it wouldn't surprise me if it was a no until they knew me or with a very strict contract.

What a timewaster!!

If I was near you I'd be jumping at that chance... Great opportunity you're offering!

I agree with BB... She generally tends to be right:p:D

No in all honesty, I'd say no, unless you are blown away by the abilities of this young rider and she can take on for full loan and you inspect the yard she moves to and create a watertight agreement, otherwise it would be a no from me. Someone dictating to me about my own horse would get my back up right from the get go.
