I have yet to speak to the vet, but I believe pony has a large Corpora Nigra Cyst dangling down in front of her right pupil.
She's recently gone from rock solid to increasingly spooky, and I noticed the Corpora Nigra the other day. Vet is coming out soon to do teeth and jabs for the other two (pony in question is new and had these done a couple days after arrival), so I'll speak to her about it then.

But I would love to know peoples experiences with getting this treated? How effective it was, and probably most importantly, how much it cost!
I'll try get a photo later if I can for those curious!

Charie has one, it doesn't seem to affect him and we've left well alone.

I did look into them when the vet picked it up in the vetting and all the articles I read said they were harmelss, although large ones can impair vision in bright light. The thing I was most concerned about was that, to the naked eye, they look the same as melanomas. As Charlie was grey, I therefore got it ultrasound scanned to be sure it was just a cyst - and it was.

Treatment with laser is pretty effective from what I read. No idea of the cost though.

Interesting point about them looking the same as melanomas! Glad yours was just a cyst, and good to know it hasn't bothered him!

I had a look today with a torch, and it's not as large as I thought, so perhaps not an issue. I did notice a difference in the reflection of light between the two pupils though, so there could be something going on.

Did you do the ultrasound before purchasing. We have just had a horse vetted today and they found a cyst in her iris, otherwise she is perfect. Unsure of the insurance company will insure her eye. Vet said causing no problems at all. Can I get it checked properly before buying

Sorry, not been on for a few days. Yes I got it scanned before purchase, it wasn't expensive, about £150. I do have to stress though it was only because he's grey that I got it scanned as, to the naked eye, melanomas and cysts look the same so vet couldn't be certain it wasn't a melanoma (was 99% sure but not 100%). I have history with melanomas and didn't want to deal with them again, especially not in the eye. On any other colour horses it is extremely unlikely (like one in a million) to be anything other than a cyst, which is totally harmless.
