Contract, contract, contract. This forces a discussion about what is included and what isn’t. It also allows both parties to be very detailed in their needs to ensure there is a match.

We had our cracker of a children’s pony up for loan. 50% of the respondents were cheap skates who wanted a top pony for their child to win ribbons, on the cheap. Some truly horrid individuals with entitled little children.

And this is why I generally prefer animals to people. Ugh.

and whatever you do if you are loaning a horse out go see your horse on a regular basis. Don't leave it 2 months, go see it every month. Even videos and photos can tell massive lies. Plus make sure you take rugs off to check the condition, see the horse ridden and groomed and look at the state of its stable and general hygiene of where and how it is kept.
