I ride my TB about 4/5 times per week. We do 1hrs jumping/schooling once a week and approx 1 or 2 hrs hacking on the other days i ride her. I am getting her fitness up at the moment, lots of road work, hills etc and she gets very very sweaty and foamy all over. She will be living out all winter and the field has shelter in the form of lots of trees i will be putting up a shelter before xmas for them. Shes 4yrs old and i think this will be her first winter out.
At the moment she growing a big thick coat and shes turned out in a light weight rug day and night. She seems to be warm and is poutting on weight nicely (still alot of grazing) and i will be feeding haylage when the grass goes.
The question is do i have her clipped (if so i was thinking a blanket clip with half face and legs left on) and get her a H/W rug with full neck or leave her coat and just rug her with a M/W when it gets colder?
Thanks

If she were mine, I would start off with a bib clip, as this will be her first winter out. If you still find she is getting all sweaty, and seems to be coping well out without getting too cold, I would then extend to a trace clip.

I agree with the above. Although I am going to hunter clip Zoom this year, last year I started with a bib clip and then went to a high trace.

I think the way to think is that you can always take more off but you can't put it back on!!! See how she copes and you can always increase it.

Thank you, thats a good idea - will start with a bib clip and see how we get on. She is starting to turn into some kind of yeti!
