I have a 17.1 ISH who stands tall. I have a 4.5 ton lorry, with horse facing forwards and loads of room in front of him but I am worried the roof isnt high enough. It has a smart padded cushioned area above the horses heads and he wears a poll guard. He loads and travels fine as did his slightly smaller predecessor. How big a gap should there be when his head is in its normal positition?
thanks

If he is happy loading and floating then I would say it is not an issue, really only an issue if a problem loader/floater and likely to throw him self around.

Most of the horse float/trailer heights are between 6.9 to 7.3 ft approx when I was looking for a float (from memory), some people offered extra height if requested.

For a 17.1 hh horse I think 7-7.3ft is recomended.

When I spoke to one of the traders on a stand at Hickstead he told me they judge height by allowing 20cm from the horse's height at the withers. I don't know if that's right or wrong but he said that's how they do it when they make conversions.
