I am organising a weekend of intensive tuition for my partner, seems that Talland and Dovecote are the places that are recommended the most but now I can't decide which to book!

My boyfriend has only been riding for 4 years but rides my mare more than I do now. He is really quite capable and has had regular lessons with a GP rider but probably lacks the experience that comes with riding lots of horses having really only ridden ours.

He really loves dressage which I think is quite unusual since he came into riding quite late (30) as most men I meet love jumping!

Has anyone been to both and could recommend one to be more suitable?

Thank you!

Excellent place, classical instruction, fabulous horses and accommodation. Equisimulator is great too. Just had a fabulous weekend there. Sue Nevil-Parker is such a good instructor - one of the best I have met in 30 + years of riding - no hiding place with her!

Have also ridden at Talland with Hilary Hughes and she was excellent. Arrow is completely different (and more my thing tbh).

I went to talland for a special treat flatwork lesson. It was ok but I didn't get as much out of it as I had expected. Perhaps expecting a lot from one lesson I suppose and 4 day intensive would be much more useful I'm sure.

Saying that, I'd def recommend a riding course at Mary Wanless in Gloucs - you can combine it with a nice weekend/week in the Cotswolds. I DID get masses out of even just the first lesson and the weekend itself was fantastic, good fun, great tuition, massage and physio type sessions for those who want it. I've booked to go on two more this year!

Agree. I have friends who have been to Talland and Arrow and definitely got more out of Arrow.

I would suggest a simulator weekend with Heather Moffett http://www.enlightenedequitation.com/sim.htm
I am training to become an accredited EE teacher after reading Heather's book and having several "lightbulb moments". Heather teaches brilliantly with the simulators, we had so many cried of "why has no-one taught me that before" or you can tailor make a weekend and take your horse with you.

Fantastic thank you for all the suggestions. I'll give Arrow a call, as I really liked what I read on their website!

Really appreciate everyone's feedback, massive help!

Dovecote is brilliant- Sam is a lover of the lunge lesson and completely changes your position. All done at your own pace and only off lunge when ready, all his horses are amazing as well!
