Little bugger!
A little background on Tally. He's a rising 17 year old 15hh (with shoes on!) supposedly Anglo-Arab who has a Napoleon complex the set of a house, and a hell of a lot of little pony attitude along with it. This translates to him throwing wild tantrums if he doesn't get to do what he wants, when he wants. Three and a half years of giving in to some battles, finding ways around other battles, and flatly standing my ground on different battles, and we have reached a relatively happy medium where his truly wild tantrums are reserved for very public places at very important times, but most of the time, he behaves.
He was off work due to lameness (he x-rayed clean, and the vets were a bit stumped!) from November until mid April, when he finally came sound and came back into work. He has to be doing something, or else he gets bored and destructive (ie climbing out of his cover and getting it stuck over his head!), so he was over the moon to finally be back in work, and has not put a foot out of line except, after a week off, he just couldn't help it and put in a couple of dramatic rears for an audience of bemused foreign students (he lives on my uni campus), who gave him a hearty round of applause, which sent his ego somewhere into the stratosphere. I think they thought he was supposed to do that
He just couldn't keep going with this good behaviour lark, and managed to flood his paddock by playing with the ballcock. He then spent the entire ride this evening trying to send me flying, because other people were jumping and HE wasn't allowed. Plus I prevented him from going everywhere in lengthened trot (I eventually gave in on that score, lengthened trot was preferable to a row of handstands!). I finally convinced him to trot in a circle, then let him trot over some trotting poles (which was apparently unbelievably exciting).
Actually re-introducing him to jumps is going to be VERY interesting.
From older photos, to demonstrate his attitudes.
Tally's dressage face
Tally's jumping face.
(He got so excited, he appears to have lost a hind leg....)
I'm doomed.
