Hi,

my cob has a really thick and fairly long mane, down to his shoulder (pic below)

He is going away for training on Sunday for 3 weeks, I was thinking of trimming off the dead ends (as they are sun bleached) to tidy it up, and then perhaps putting it in loose plaits to keep it tidy as the trainer he is going to is not keen on grooming too much, plus it will keep it out of the way of the reins?!

What does everyone think? What would you do with it??

Don't pull it that would be such a shame. Just do lots of plaits or do the lattice effect with lots of bunches. My gypsy cob has a similar mane and I would never pull it. Good luck.

I would just plait it, keep out of the way, trim the ends with scissors cutting upwards so it still looks natural

That's what I was thinking, so hard to trim it without it looking 'cut' though as it is so thick!! Any one got any tips??

Do you think wash and condition it and plait when it is wet or plait when dry?

I was thinking lots of loose plaits hanging down just to keep it tidy and out of the way.
