Tape worm time. What's your wormer of choice?

Anything with Praziquontal. Coming into winter I always do a mega worming - worm for anything and everything as its expensive enough feeding the horse without feeding the parasites over winter.

I'd put it off for another couple of weeks, with this exceptional weather our grass is still growing!!!

Though i would normally use either pramox or equimax personally. (rotational years)

Hehe. I worm count for most beasties but it is wormer time this month as I don't have bloods done, just egg counts. But I agree. Certainly don't want to feed any passengers over the winter!

Is Equimax the supposedly very palatable tablets? My horse didn't agree and I had to grind them and disguise in a very tasty dinner to get them down him. Give me a syringe any day!

equitape - wont use pramox as i dont believe the horses liver can cope with that amount of toxins in one go as its two different chemicals - so i use equitape and then 6 weeks later use another single chemical wormer to worm for encysted red worm

yes the equimax palatable tablets were eaten by 1 of my 3!! the other two wouldn't touch them!! as for pyrantel being the only wormer to do all 3 tapeworms, (had to look that one up!) this is taken from the equimax website: http://www.equimax-gel.com/p-equima...en&cmd=view&style=styles/page.xsl&select=PAGE[@ID$eq$PAGE_22]&generic1=ARTICLE_48&debut=-2

'Equimax® is registered for use in all horses that have mixed infestations of roundworms, tapeworms and bots, and is the only product registered to treat all 3 species of equine tapeworm (more information : see Package Insert).'

Wouldn't even attempt the tablets with my two! I use the equimax paste. Handy that it goes up to 700 kgs too as I normally have to buy 2 syringes for my tubby the tuba!!

If you only want to treat tapes then Equitape is handy, but only does the most common horse tapeworm. Eqvalan duo will do two types of tape. Equimax and Equest Pramox will do all three. The tapewormer in all these products is praziquantel but the amount differs in the products.

Double pyrantel will do the most common tapeworm and is a change of active ingredient if you have used praziquantel for some time.

As far as I know this is correct but things change! Why not check it out with the NOAH Compendium on line: http://www.noahcompendium.co.uk/Compendium/Overview/-21789.html

I thought it was best to wait for several hard frosts before the seasonal tape worm dose ! No frost here let alone hard frost

Yeah i'm waiting for this, bought the wormers in last month, thinking will do in October as I normally do, didn't expect this weather!!

I use Equimax or Double Dose Pyra tape P (if I spelled that right). I can't use Pramox on my horse, she reacted badly to it last time :(

Tapeworm should be wormed for at the beginning and end of the grazing season March/April and September/October.

It is bots that you worm for after the first frost. The idea being that then the flies are dead.

I have ordered some Equimax, wormed in the spring with double dose of Strongid-P as one of our horses had pin worms.
Their worm counts came back as zero but still worm for tapeworm in spring and autumn.
