Weak acid (for example vinegar or lemon juice) and salt. Ketchup might work, or Coke/Pepsi.

Wash that off, maybe with weak solution of bicarbonate of soda to make sure all the acid is neutralised, then a thin smear of Ren Wax to reduce the tarnishing going forward.


Thanks, have vinegar. Do you think smearing in baby oil or Vaseline do same job of sealing? Without spending £10-15 on wax inc postage? They were on a rain face outdoor stable.

Going to be on an indoor stable now.

I am only saying this once and quietly because you will all think i am mad

but we clean the display brass items in my place of work with ketchup, pour it on dont be shy, leave for about an hour then rub in well before rising and wipe with cloth

ours all lovely and shiny.. although they smell a little funny :D
