I have just bought an 8 year old tb (ex point to point) who I thought had settled really well into his new yard, which is much bigger and busier than his old yard which was private.
A few weeks on we have now developed a little issue with going out to the field - he (gelding) starts to leap/canter on spot/bronc when I try and walk him down to field. He is ok when I get closer to field but I think he is worse when horses are behind him. He also did it the other day when I was riding him alone (after I had schooled him - he had been very well behaved and worked really well!). I usually walk him around the walkway to fields without a problem but he started cantering on spot and not wanting to go on after some horses came past him.
I dont want to give him calmers etc if I dont have to but is there any advice for this kind of issue while settling into a new yard and routine? Maybe it is just time and persistence.
Many thanks
