My Ex racer was on Blue Chip feed Balancer, Safe & Sound and Kwick Beet, for some reason best know to myself I changed to Alpha A and D&H sixteen plus. He has become stressed and hot to ride and rather bitey in the stable. I have never heard that 16 plus could be heating, he IS looking good on it. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I had Rebs on 16+ with alfa A original and he was fine, but then I could have fed him racing cubes and I don't think he would have changed. I found that Readymash Extra put loads of weight on Blue, and she was as sane as a dippy TB mare can be on it, but I've recently changed her to Fast Fibre as she has to come in at night and it has nothing heating whatsoever in it. If you feed enough Fast Fibre it will keep the weight on, but you need to feed plenty of it. It's firmed the poos up too!

For some reason manufacturers seem to think that senior horses are fine on high levels of starch - I'd bet 16+ is high in starch but there are no figures on the website. Mind you Blue Chip is very high in starch but at least it's fed in small quantities.

Quite sbloom, I googled 16plus and they dont give much info, it is 13% protein though. All I know is that he is behaving 3 plus!

Thank you HH, where do you get FF from? How are you feeling dearest girl? Been thinking of you. xx

I just ordered into my local tack/feed store. You soak one scoop of it to two scoops of water. It looks like cow poo in the bucket. Blue wouldn't eat it at first as it wasn't as tasty as the Readymash, but once I put a few chopped carrots in it she was fine - and she's a really fussy eater.

Not feeling too bad today thanks. I had to get the horsebox from the yard to take it to the garage to be looked at tomorrow, so I dropped OH at the end of the drive so that he could go and get it. I would have had to walk past where he was PTS to collect it, and I just couldn't have done it. Also don't want to have to talk to anyone on the yard yet...xx

With my horses I won't feed any cereal at all due to the high starch levels, mine are all on Allen and page L mix ( 3.75% starch) as a base which is totally cereal free and add linseed for calaries, brewers yeast, mag and vit/min supplement. I use L mix as it's even lower than fast fibre. My tbs do get alfa a as well if needed
and are fine but something I would keep a eye on. ( in molasses) mixes can be as high as 28% + starch it's mad. Allen and page L mix all the way for me
