Teach me about conformation please!!

I've had many, many horses over the years but have absolutely no idea about conformation.....please enlighten me.....pictures would be massively helpful!!

I know people say horses can be 'too straight at the hock'.....which i think i understand but how does there conformation really effect them?

Is it all about angles of x to y?

Here is my horse....after all i would like to learn about conformation so i can see the good and bads in my boy...as well as potential future horses!!

For a good confo critique you really need good side on shots with the horse stood up on level ground with nothing distracting in the background. Ideally you also need a complete face on and rear on shot to assess straightness of the limbs etc.
