Teaching a horse to lunge......

Video. :D It's fab and easy.

Next time the eventing is on - I'm bringing the grey in to watch it. She can sit on the sofa with a few carrots and learn everything that she needs to know. :p

Or have a helper who walks beside the horse while the horse gets the idea to circle the person in the middle. It helps alot if the horse already understands vocal commands (walk on, trot on, whoa etc...) that can be taught when leading in-hand.

Brill glad you said that cause it's exactly what we did so going along the right lines. He's 14, but I feel the lunging bit was rushed in his education as he'll just try and come in off circle.

Would riding him whilst he was being lunged work too??

Loving the video.... :-)

Firslty I would get a 2nd person to help you out. They can lead the Horse whilst you are in the middle. It gives the Horse an idea of what they need to do. Praise lots and keep talking so your Horse knows what expected of him. As your Horse gets the hang of it ask the helper to gradually move away. I wouldn't do anymore then walk until your Horse gets the idea.
