I'm teaching in an hour, anyone got an ideas as to what jumping exercise I can do with them, fancy doing something different as I teach them every week.

Its a group lesson of approx 10 for an hour. All teenagers that can ride quite well.

Any ideas??

like L jumps where they are set like an L you done one side then you have to circle to do the other part

Grids always good

Bounce jumps

Chase me charlie

Thanks for the ideas so fat- unfortunatley I can't do any thing with no hands, reins, saddles as I work at a BHS approved yard and our insurance would go mental!

block elimination?

another good one i was introduced to last year which i thought was odd at the time but worked great
demi vaults that have a jump on the diagnoal as you back towards the track, done in trot then canter away. really fgood to get them on their hocks

Five plastic filler type poly blocs arranged to make a small jump within a course no poles or wings on this joker fence, rest of course as you wish. After each round take away a poly bloc making joker fence narrower until they have to jump it as a single bloc without wings teaches accuracy and is good fun.

I was laughing when I read this post for EXACTLY that reason.Tis not like it was in the old days is it?

I couldn't teach a chase me charlie either for the same reason. I can hear the judge's voice in my head

And she fell off because you were making them jump higher and higher until the jump got too big for the pony to manage? Is that what you call responsible teaching?'

Oh this is so sad! Most of my favorite lesson involved jumping without stirrups and reins and I used to teach the kids in Cyprus this way. They loved it and it really built their confidence.
I will be doing my PTT later this year and for the jumping lesson part I won't be able to teach these methods but it's such a good way to learn. What a shame the threat of litigation has managed to deny younguns so much fun these days.
