Well Emma lets me touch and bursh all her legs/hooves no problem but as soon as I lift a hoof she picks it up but straight away starts pulling it away/pawing/stamping it down.
I have been told just to lift it and then when she pulls away it is ok she will eventually learn that I'm not going to do anything bad or hold on to it so she will stop fighting. However I'm worried this will teach her if she pulls away I won't touch them :\
Any advice/experience!?

I always used to hold Oscar's up until he relaxed/stopped snatching them away thenput them down when he held them still?

I dont know if its rigth but he is 100% with all his now.
I hink its just patience and trust.

Goodluck :)

When we got out 3yr, he didn't really get the idea of picking up his feet so we were told to use a leadrope around the heel, and the pull his leg up for about a week. We got him used to this before we started picking his feet out properly and using our hands. He still pulled his leg away but wasn;t as strong and eventually stopped. Now he's great with his feet :)
We thought it was his balance so let him drop his feet if he was struggling because if not, he used to try to kneel on his front knees.

My mare was an unhandled almost 3 1/2 yr old when i had her & never had feet handled. I could just about pick them up but she'd kick & try to pull away. I just held onto them until she stopped and relaxed, then put them down nicely. Didn't take her long to learn that when she kicks her leg stays up & when she's quiet she can put it down. 6 months on i only have to tap the foot i want & she picks it up & holds it until i tell her to put it down. They do take some holding onto though, especially back ones when they really mean it!
