I got a set of these stirrups for Christmas and love the look and concept of them. However, I was informed on Boxing day that they might not be BE legal and it turns out that they currently are not. Tech are in talks with BE but there is no saying if/when the rule will change.

I think it is absolutely ridiculous that I can go XC in a standard fixed stirrup which is just asking for trouble but they wont let me use these stirrups which, in my view, are one of the safest on the market!

I have email FEI to see their view on the stirrups and I can see nothing in the Pony Club or Riding Club rules banning them.

So the big question is, do I keep the stirrups for home use on my youngster (baring in mind they were fairly pricey) only to have to swap back to the bog standard bent leg stirrups to compete and hope they one day change the rule or do I send them back and try and find something else?

Once the company are in talks with BE it doesn't usually take long to get sorted.
I think BE have banned them under their no magnetic stirrup rule. This rule was brought in to stop the magnetic system which hold the foot in the stirrup. It's a little like PROtector gate, BE follow the set rules to the letter & then tend to amend them. I'd hold tight before making any decision TBH

Personally I would use them anyway, no one will notice and they are sure to be legal soon. It's difficult to tell they are breakaway unless someone actually tugs at them.

I have decided to keep them :)
The lady who I bought them off was very helpful and offered me a full refund, but like Glamourpuss said it is probably a little like the situation with the PROtector hats and once they actually look at them rather than assume all magnetic stirrups are bad then they will hopefully change their minds!
If anything at least I will feel/be safer hacking and schooling my youngster on my own.

ETA: Dixie - I did see someone post on Facebook to say they had used them all this season for BE without any issues so, like you say, I could probably get away with using them anyway! Don't think I have ever had my tack checked at a BE event. Even at the festival of eventing they were only worried about checking for ear plugs underneath the fly vail.
