My cairn terrier is 10. He gets lots of plaque on his teeth - which usually have to be cleaned under sedation every 18 months or so. The vet says it is just one of those things as his litter mate (who I also own) eats exactly the same food and has never needed his teeth doing.
I have tried cleaning the dog's teeth with a soft babies toothbrush but as soon as I start, no matter how gently, the back teeth bleed lots. Should I stop trying to brush his teeth - or is there something else I can try?
