Daisy has beautiful teeth (well she's only 21 months). And has a bone and a bisson horn that she likes to chew.

But do any of you guys use those denta stix things??

I did try them, but Perry scared me as he chewed it down to a small block and then got it stuck in the roof of his mouth. He may well have sorted himself out, but didn't get the chance as I pulled it out when I saw him struggling. I never leave mine with anything now unless, I am around.

As with a lot of dog products, it's all well marketed bunkum.
Gave my old dog a shocking dose of the runs (I was given a box).

Hopefully that won't elicit another gushy private message, extolling their virtues!!!

He gets ones every day at about 8pm yes. He's 8 this year and someone did comment the other day on how clean his teeth were, never has any problems with them. I think you can give a whole raw carrot as another teeth cleaner, but our boy seems to like these. He has an antler too, but this I know he has every day. My parents do the same to their dogs, and their last boy got to 15 with a good set of healthy teeth.

I'd forgotten, that also happened to my two.

my dog reached 8yrs, 15yrs and 17yrs between them they lost one tooth, one dog had a terrible mouth and it is thought it is as much to do with the saliva they produce and the conformation of the mouth as anything else. they were fed dry with the 17yr old never eating anything else as he did not like raw or bones the other 2 ate what was caught by them, carrots and bones. I used to give antlers too and still would but a few dogs have fractured teeth on them as they are so hard.

Best thing I find is either a hoof or a bone for them to chew on once a month does a good job, with weekly brushing in between (when I remember!).

Dentastix, dry food etc is all going to stick to the teeth and encourage more tartar build up.

Like Twiggy; our lot get one every night at bedtime and they also have dried food, all without problems. As said, it's very much due to mouth conformation whether they are likely to get problems or not. Our lurchers have had no problems but the bassets weren't so lucky, all fed exactly the same.

loaded full of rubbish-I wont feed them

Agreed. They're full of sugar! Awful for teeth. Also has salt in them. If you're lucky, her genetics will lend themselves to good teeth. There are far better treats out there, like pig ears or fish skins from Fish4dogs.

Mine ate them in 3 mouthfuls so never really saw how it did much for his teeth! That was when I first got him, I learned quickly and cut out all the rubbish and used more natural chews like dried tripe, and now raw feed so he gets a good variety of bones.
