At what stage would we expect teething to take place in a horses life, presumably this would also affect their work ability too, what kind of effects should I expect? Not got a great deal of experience with babies so just wondering?

Thanks in advance x

twig still has a baby cap on one of her bottom front teeth and work wise she varies day to day - saying that she is a slow developer! there all different!

What kind of symptoms does she show and do you then give her the day off when she is showing symptoms (if symptoms is the right word lol!)

just schooling wise really some days she will go like a dream, others she will be tense and resistant. Wether this is down to the teeth or not who can be sure but if i know im at a point where its not going to be productive i'll take her for a hack instead.

occasionally she has been seen chewing fences (not habitually) and rubbing her teeth down a brick wall which really makes me cringe!

I suppose i just think of how when my wisdom teeth were growing, most of the time you dont notice and then others days they really bother you

Very true, my wisdom teeth certainly don't make me happy! It's just trying to determine whether it is a sore teeth day or a take the piss day I suppose, thanks for your advice x

The horses mouth sees a lot of changes from about two years onward then again at about 4.5 years to about 5 years when they get the full set of adult teeth. Try having a look and see what is erupting at the moment.
You haven't said how old your horse is but most equine veterinary books will give you the full mouth plan of the changes you can expect at these times.
