I was at Chatsworth at the weekend and saw some Tekna saddles for sale, now i must admit i have never considered a synthetic saddle ever, but now i have a youngster i was seriously thinking about one of these purely because they are such a good price, for the cost of a decent 2nd hand Albion, Barnsby etc., i could have a jumping and a dressage saddle in a Tekna, then when she's fully grown she can have her own leather grown up saddle.

So any of you out there own a Tekna saddle, what's it worn like? are they comfy, and what type of horses do they fit best? is the tree curved or flat?

Thanks in advance :D

I had a jumping one and loved it, lovely quality and comfort, and people were generally amazed when i pointed out it was synthetic. Would definitely have another but the tree shape doesnt fit my TB (i used it on mums connemara, for affiliated workers and eventing).
Would recommend though!

bruce has the GP and i ride a clients horse in the dressage version-love them both, really comfy and the dressage fits me/feels similar to a top of the range Amerigo in the seat and knee roll!

fit curvey backs best and come up pretty wide IMO.

No experience of the saddles, but I use the girths and tendon boots as home/work sets, and they last brilliantly.

Hi, Not sure whereabouts you are in the country, but Horsesense saddlers at Solihull Riding Club had Tekna Dressage saddles in around a year ago when i was looking.

I tried one but not particularly good for awkward shaped IDx!

Forgot to mention, they don't come to you to fit, you have to go there. But very good fitters IME.

:D Thats great, thank you for that, Horsense isn't too far for us to travel really, so when she's ready i think that a trip to Horsesense is in order, at least if a Tekna doesn't fit her, than we can look at other saddles whilst we are there, am i correct in thinking they stock 2nd hand as well?

Yes they have a good range of 2nd hand, or at least did when i tried my saddle. I ended up picking up an identical saddle she had suggested elsewhere as Horsesense were a little pricey but they were still more than happy to fit it to me. I think she was just impressed i'd found a bargain!

Don't have a Tekna but have a Thorowgood on my 5yo for precisely this reason - my very sensible saddler refuses to sell me a 'proper' saddle until he has stopped growing!
It's a T6 cob so looks like leather but without the effort of cleaning!
Presumably Tekna have adjustable gullet widths as have changed mine twice already, you must get it done by a saddler tho, so if Horsesense is a trek worth seeing if a local saddler will fit them too.

Anyone else know where I can get my Dressage MW turned into a bit more of a W - I'm reluctant to send off saddle in the post!

Oxfordshire for me - can travel a bit - but Solihull too far (Diesel would be more than the saddle cost me!)

The lady from Shires who i spoke to about the Tekna saddles, said that a company called Red Horse Vale in Oxhill, stock theTekna saddles, not sure if they have a fitter or if tht is too far for you?

i had a GP saddle and it was ded comfy!!...

Improved our jumping no end :D

(we were still crap but least we did it with style...!) :D

Have read this thread with great interest; pony can change shape throughout the year and saddler advised us to buy a saddle with a changeable gullet. She's got two changeable Wintec GP's (one for mum and one for me) but I'd really like a dressage saddle, my theory being that I'd find it easier to ride dressage in a suitably designed saddle!

Does Tekna make nice dressage saddles? I had a quick look on Google and Equestrian Clearance seems to sell them at good prices? http://www.equestrianclearance.com/brands_navigation/tekna/index.html I also quite like the look of their jumping saddles and with my birthday soon, Mum might be more agreeable than usual, or not...:( I can live in hope!

Im no expert, but i looked at all of the saddles on their stall, they had GP or club, two different type of jumping saddles and dressage, they all looked to be really nice saddles in my opinion, like i say especially for the money, try this link see if it works, they have the dressage one here

I just emailed sales@teknaequestrian.co.uk - to ask - and it bounced back non-deliverable - Great! (NOT!)

Ellie - its not a changable gullet system.
Its a changeable tree; to change the shape its a specialist job with an oven to re-mould - not a screwdriver and a new plate (ala wintec)

I was told its a changeable gullet system, i know the tree can be heated up, but the gullets are changeable too, unless of course these are a new design?

I think it depends on which saddle you buy: QUIK CHANGE GP/DRESSAGE GULLET PLATE - The Tekna Gullet Plates are made to fit the Tekna S Line General Purpose and Dressage saddles which feature the Quik Change gullet system. These gullet plates allow the rider to widen or narrow the wither fit of the saddle to suit the horse & QUIK CHANGE JUMPING GULLET PLATE - The Tekna Gullet Plates are made to fit the Tekna S Line Jumping saddle which features the Quik Change gullet system. These gullet plates allow the rider to widen or narrow the wither fit of the saddle to suit the horse.

So the Tekna S Line Jumping Saddle & Tekna S Line General Purpose Saddle have gullets whilst the Tekna General Purpose Saddle & Tekna Jumping Saddle have the heating version!

Happy Hunter - try Shires, they told me that they had taken over the distribution of them, they may be able to find someone for you that can make the changes

Bellingdon End Saddlery near Chesham in Bucks stocks them, and the fitter there is very widely recommended.

Ellie - my mistake- there seems to be a 'new breed' of saddles with a plate change system then! - Keep your eyes peeled - Mine certainly doesnt! :)

Haha, will do! I emailed mum the link & she agrees with me that they're very nice saddles which are very good value for money, but....she doesn't seem to be doing anything about them:( Hmmmm, may have to start saving for a new saddle fund!!

my friend got a tekna jumping saddle and it is really nice! really comfy squidgy knee rolls. For a synthetic saddle, they are really good quality!:D

Hi there, just reading this thread with interest, my chap is either a med-wide or wide fit depending on the saddle, currently in a wide 17.5 farrington VSD which I have had reflocked as was a bit too wide once he muscled up -but I now need a bigger knee roll for jumping. can anyone tell me if the Tekna saddles are a bit banana tree shaped or will they fit a slightly flatter backed horse? the dressage and jumping models both look very nice and i have just found some secondhand, would love to try one and see if it would work for us, might be able to afford one of each :-))
