Evening all, hope you all had a lovely Christmas etc :)

Would some kind people please tell me about the BS age classes....? I am, by nature an eventer, have only really jumped in the usual classes (BN, Disco, NCs, Fox)and don't really understand how the age classes work...

Thank you muchly!! :)

6yro final is no longer at HOYS as of next year, final at Scope. I believe the 7+8yros class is now called the talentseekers or something, and is also open to older grade Bs and Cs. Prize to highest place 7yro I think? Not really an age class any more

4yros is a style and performance class I believe, not against the clock. I think the other classes are more typical formats

Right,

Some shows have age classes which qualify for their own champs - ie weston lawns has an april show where if you are dc you qualify for the september final.

In the qualifiers all double clears are equal first. As far as I know in this is the case for 4yo finals too.

Prize money is split between all double clears.

You jump one round at one height and then it goes up for the second round. Timed second round for 5 and 6 year olds so you have an outright winner for these.

4 years 1m first round 105/110 second round.

5 years 110, then 115/120

6 years 120 then 125/130.

But you will find they will get stronger throughout the year so will be bigger at say arena uk which is one of the last big shows of year.

7 and 8s i dont know much about - i think they are combined and called talentseekers - prize for highest placed 7 year old.

During the summer there are qualifiers for scope 6 year olds - must jump treble clear to qualify for scope. Then jump treble clear at scope which has always been the final. The treble clears could then jump at hoys (sort of a bonus class) but this is now scrapped.

Addington have a young horse champs where they have age classes for british and non british bred categories.

Normally at most shows with a final there is a bonus for highest placed british bred.

So you can enter any first round age class - but have to qualify for
scope 6 year olds. And talentseekers for hoys

I think they need recorded breeding too?

When ever I have watched age classes the horses are in a different class, absolutely stunning.

I groomed for a friend doing the 5 year olds at scope last year and they built big. Went up to 1.25! Id like to do it with my chap as next year is his 5th year and we missed the 4 year olds due to growing issues. Will see how he progresses. He does have recorded breeding

Thanks so much :) I have a very nice 4yo and a lovely 5yo and we're within reach of Weston so that would be doable.
