Weirdly it seems in almost 20 years of horsiness I have no experience what so ever with splints.
Im pretty sure one of my horses has one. He's retired and mainly living out. He's out as much as possible as he'd started becoming very stiff/sore looking to turn out. Being out all the time has done him good and he's looked pretty sound.
Last night I brought him in due to serious amounts or rain and the fact I'm currently limiting my 3 horses to one paddock to try and get my others back good after a bad winter so the last thing I wanted was them out on it in that weather- They were also pretty miserable looking ;)
This morning the lameness was worse than ever on his way out. On examination I found a bony lump about the size of a large grape on the inside od his cannon bone about 5/6cm below his knee.
It was so foul last night I literally dragged them in and went back home so I didn't check him but he was sound looking on the way in.
I know its not been there long as he has a knee injury from last year which I regularly check as ive been wondering if its the cause of the stiffness- I couldn't have missed this new bump so assume its really very new.
I always thought a splint to be caused by over work or trotting on too hard a surface for prolonged time.- like I say this is a retired horse.
Could this have been the cause of the soreness over the past few months? (its very on and off)
Splint info please!?

Sounds very much like a splint!
Variety of causes as ever with horses!

My vet came to see mine when 6 years after throwing her splint and it causing no issues it suddenly inflammed, treatment was box rest, leg ice and bute till she was sound (about 10 days) Never troubled her since and that was 4 years ago now!

Thank you, I'm keen to leave this horse out. He won't be stabled alone and in this current field he wouldn't even see others. He's fairly calm in the field with the others tho' often not even joining in a play session. Would the lameness coming out of the stable be associated with a splint?
