Tell me about Stallion grading?

So have now acquired a stallion, but because he is TB I will need to join another book to get him graded

So my questions are:
1) what do you actually do in a grading?
2) which is the best book to register a TB with?

So looks like you might fork out £360 and not get further than a trot up!!!
