I am applying for a job in Wrexham (industrial estate) and would be moving from Surrey. I know nothing about the area, except my limited research on house prices and I've found a couple of livery yard websites. It seems like horsey heaven but I'd just like some help/advice on the areas to live/avoid and livery yards (part livery).

I have also just got a job on the industrial estate!! I'm lucky as I'm already living close by so can commute for a little while, but I am looking to move my horse over that way before too long. I know nothing about the yards over that way though!! I am just looking at possible areas to move to, but would rather check out the yards first (priorities straight!!). I have a friend who has been renting in the town centre for a year and is house hunting in the area. I'm hoping to pick her brains on the residential areas next week.

Hi! I live in the Wrexham area and I'd say it's a lovely place:) Very horsey too which is great and some places have some beautiful hacking..! I've spent hours and hours out and about on my horse:D Have you already moved here? If you have any questions I don't mind answering them:) I wouldn't say there were many places you should avoid here tbh.. I don't live in the centre of Wrexham and prefer it like that but each to their own. I know people tend to avoid Queens Park as it's known to be a bit rough (Don't want to offend anyone:eek:) If you have enough money places like Gresford and Rossett and that area are beautiful:D

I'm moving the end of December. I've looked at a handful of yards, and am back next week to look at some more. I'm going to rent until I suss out what area to buy in, but my faves so far are Gresford, Overton and Malpas.

Where do you keep yours? Horse wise the better hacking seems to be Bronington/Ellesmere way. I can't cope with roadwork, I need to be able to canter. But I had wanted to stay fairly close to work. At the moment I do a massive commute home-work-horse and when I move I just want everything to be close.

Don't choose Malpas for the Hacking! It's a lovely area but the hacking is useless unless you like road work (no good verges either!) I live here and it's notoriously bad for off road riding though we have lots of little lanes which are fab and mostly very quiet. I would say around Bronington would be your best bet as you have the Whixall Mosses which are the biggest area of tracks around here. Some say the other side of Wrexham is very good for off-roading too. You could ask on Wrexham Riders or North Wales Bridleways group, both on FB - it also seems a bit cheaper that way too!

ETA: there was a yard in Connery Lane which backs onto Whixall Moss but not sure if it still does liveries. Also have a friend not 10 mins from the Mosses that might do a bit of livery.

Ahh ok, I liked Malpas to live, I hadn't found any yards round there. My preference is Gresford though. Ooh so I went to Conery Farm, it's beautiful, and yes the hacking sounds fab and she's doing livery. I just haven't done the drive yet from the industrial estate so will check it out when I'm back. When you say the other side of Wrexham do you mean Hope way? I haven't managed to get there yet but I've a few yards to see there. I put a post on Wrexham Riders and had a mega response. I went to 4 yards on my last visit but should really be looking at houses too and not just yards...my priorities are all wrong 😂

I live in Tallarn green/Threapwood it's classed as Malpas but is about 3 miles away. The hacking is great. I've not long moved from Bronington, if you're close to the moses the hacking is good as well. Not sure on yards but look up Threapwood way. Very horsey but I haven't used livery
Oh yes Conery lane I was as just further up from there. Not long changed hands and straight on to the Fenns mosses

Every time I go and have a look I change my mind. I almost feel like I'm being lied to with regards to the hacking! Everyone tells me they have amazing hacking, and when I dig a little deeper it's lanes with the odd bridlepath. Me and the pony love a good hoon and I'm not willing to compromise on this. I checked out Hope but the hackings not for me. So I'm thinking of living in Whitchurch. Are there any yards in that area? Or Oswestry, although there don't appear to be many yards around there with what I need.

We are very short on place to hoon about in this area; it's just not around here at all; there is not any public land, downs, woods, commons unless you count Whixall Moss and further away, Delamere Forest (it's an easy run from Wrexham just further away and likely to be so much more expensive)

I miss the downs and paths we had around Selsdon and Epsom; sadly, nothing like that around here.
