I am the proud owner of a 9 year old Standardbred Mare who i have owned for 3 years, i didn't know anything about the breed until i got her, when i went to view her i thought she was a TBx, it wasn't until i called my instructor and asked her to come & take a look at us as i was (and still am tbh) having trouble cantering her, that she said 'ahhh yes, that's because she is a trotting horse'.
I find that my mare struggles still with canter and that she can be weak behind, will jump but it is all very fast & erratic, is as steady as a rock hacking down the road (artics, buses etc don't phase her), but can be quite literally scared of her own shadow on quiet country lanes lol.
Anyway, the purpose of my post is to ask how you have found training yours and whether or not there are any breed characteristics/common ailments you have had any experience with.
Any info to help me understand my mare better would be much appreciated, plus pictures of your gorgeous neds will be wonderful.
