I'm think of buying a polypad but im not sure on a few little things.
First, I cant decide on a size i'd have to buy for a general purpose 17.5" saddle with relatively "normal" length flaps.
Secondly, do you find that they move/slip around very much in use due to the lack of straps securing it to the saddle.
And finally, what thickness would you recommend?? The website seems rather informative about all of these issues.

Thankyou, to anybody that will have plucked up enough energy to reply to such a boring subject :)

I haven't bought a Polypad for years and years and years = they just seem to last for ever! :)
Re slipping....so long as your saddle fits and doesn't slip, your polypad won't either.
Re thickness....it depends on the fit of your saddle. I used to buy the single thickness for use in the summer but then also had the doubler for January onwards after horse had been hunting hard and trimmed up!
If you are in Leicestershire, I know that Milners stock them, so why not take your saddle up there and have a play with what fits?

I think the genuine polypads only come in pony or full. The pony was small with my 16inch saddle. The different styles do measure up differently, but the sizes are on their website. I use a polypad universal in the thinnest thickness and fits my 17 inch t4 cob saddle perfectly. Absolutely love them, actually think it moves less than normal pads. I find the thicker ones are way too thick, unless you saddle is ridiculously wide.

Yes, I was just worried i'd be forever repositioning multiple times per ride. But if you are sure it is dow to saddle fit, I shouldn't have a problem. Thankyou for your reply

I recently started using a Polypad and it hasn't slipped at all. I just got the standard thickness one and it has been fine.

I love them! They last forever and wash up well. I have no problems with there being a straight spine it pulls up into the saddle gullet ok and does not press on the withers. As far as I know they only come in one size? There is a dressage version which is a little longer. They are long enough in the spine for anything, I currently have one under a 19" saddle, though they do not come right the way down the saddle flap on adult sized saddles. I have a double thickness one which gets used on saddles that are a little wide, they raise the front too much on a well fitting saddle I find. If the saddle slips at all they are not the best and work their way out from under the saddle after a couple of canters. For those saddles I prefer other brands of saddlepad.

As above posters, I haven't had to buy any for years. I use them under my GP. Standard size. I wouldn't use them personally under my dressage as I only use the thinnest standard saddlecloth square, non padded under it, but that's a personal choice due to saddle.

They have been washed and used thousands of times and still look relatively new Bung in washing machine, out and dry fairly quick too. No silly loops to fiddle with.

They don't seem to move either, certainly on a horse / saddle combo where there are no unusual fitting issues. I think they are great and is one piece of kit I truly recommend! I have a double one and standard ones, as someone else mentioned, depends on horses, well, fatness? Or muscle ness! Nice range of colours too, although I only have fairly safe coloured ones!

I've used several through the years. Think you can now get them in two thicknesses, the "normal" and the extra-thick.

Personally I'm not a great fan of them TBH. Even the thinnest version is too thick IMO and I'd far rather go for a good Mattes or NuMed numnah which fits ever so much better.

The one I had in the tackroom has migrated into the house........ as a dogs bed! Absolutely ideal for this, and the dogs love it!

If you've never used one before don't go spending money on a new one as they tend to come up on secondhand sites like E-bay and Preloved plus other FB horsey sites, you can pick one up for about a fiver or so if you're lucky :)

I've just bought 4 for a tenner at Reading carriage sale, they are in the washing machine as I type. Have an imitation one which has been a very useful item, washes well and doesn't slip.

I'm not so keen on the classic shape rectangular ones, although they are useful I have found that they can bunch up a bit in the gullet of the saddle on my cob (but not with my narrower horses?) I really like the Forma on him though, great fit and no bunching up!

Mine are now dog beds too as i now drive instead of riding, dogs love them. I have new ones for driving harness. Great choice of colour combinations. Wash Brill..
