Has anyone done this??

We are super lucky to have a beautiful house in beautiful (if a little cold) Scotland and have a nice sizeable chunk of land for the horses. We are in the infant stages of applying for planning permission for a little stable yard but I am concerned about the winter. We are on a little DIY yard about 15 minutes away which has lovely big stables but not as much grazing as I would like and it is 15 minutes away....which in snow and/or ice won't be a fun drive (I only have a Mini.....and can't justify spending money on a big 4x4 that won't even guarantee I'll get there!)

So we had this slightly crazy idea to put a temporary, move-able field shelter with gates up and just bring them home...we have the grazing that is sat there just growing (as someone with the horses it is painful to turn my horses out in a bare field when I have so much grass outside my bedroom window!). Has anyone done this or anything similar?

I do see a lot of flaws in my own plan....but just wanted to see if anyone else had tried or done anything similar?

When we bought our own place it was a barley crop with a wide field margin of grass only. The first winter before we'd built the yard I had a double field shelter with gates on the front and it worked fine. The mud was horrific and I used a lot of round bales of straw to make mat paths in and out but we got through. Was a mission to move the shelter once the winter was up!

If there is anywhere with a bit of surface or dry it would work. I know someone who put paving slabs then the small hole grass mats on the inside of the fieldshelter to make a temporary but mud proof base.

I moved a month ago into a non equestrian property with land. I am applying for planning for stables & arena. In the meantime, there is a large concrete pad where the previous owners pulled down a big, old concrete garage, so I have had delivered a block of two stables on wooden skids. I also had a matching shed delivered to use as a temp tackroom & which replaced a very tatty old shed.

My stable block is two 12x12 stables which have doors etc on like normal stables, except that they are on skids.
