temporary stables

Hi

In the fields i rent they have a field shelter and this has a floor on it and also 2 stables that dont move place or anything think he has planning permission for them to stay there. However they have no floor soon i plan to start using them for the winter and also would be nice to stable night before shows now as well.

What can i put on the base of the floor if anything? One is stabled on straw so not too worried about that stable. The other mare needs a shavings bed or something similar she is not able to have a straw bed.

I used to have soil floor stables and they worked quite well. I was using straw at the time, and you would sometimes get a patch that was a bit wetter, but it didn't go wet or mushy. Warmer too than concrete.

you could get some mats and use a bale of shavings if you dont want to build up a deep perminant bed you just need to work out if they will stay dry ie the surounding ground is reasonabley well drained and water wont be running in ...
