Hi!

I have an exracer (steeplechaser) that I would love to do a few hunter trials on later this year. He's 16 and had a full racing career. I plan to take things slow and do some xc schooling first, and I only want to do classes up to 2'9 absolute max.

My main worry is that both his front tendons were broken down a few years ago before I had him. I have had him for 18months now and he has always been sound hacking on the roads and in the fields, cantering/galloping on suitable ground etc. He had been in work and sound some time before he was gifted to me. The trainer said he will be fine to jump but if anyone has any useful advice for me I would be very grateful! Eg similar experience, good protective boots etc. I have popped him over one or two small jumps in the school and he managed fine.

I have currently been schooling him so that i can get him well off the forehand and balanced so that I can have more control over keeping him safe xc.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!

Every horse is different for healing, strength etc but when I was racing our best horse broke down and was pin fired, he had 6 months off and then 6 months hacking etc, he then went on to win another 3 mile chase! If you are careful with the ground conditions then who knows, wish you luck
