My foal has very contracted tendons in a front leg. WE have tried to straighten it by weaning him and putting on a plastic shoe which looked as if it worked but when we took it off it went straight back to normal?

Vets are talking about operating now??

and Botox????

Any opinions please

Sorry to hear it. Normally, if an intervention is needed it will be apparent between 6 to 8 months (most defects having sorted themselves out in this time). I'm afraid your vet may be correct. What does your farrier say? Or maybe ask a different farrier?

Thanks he is only 4 1/2 months old

Farrier does agree unfortunately and i have used him for years for all of my horses he really is great and i trust him!!

They have told me they maybe able to try Botox injections ??? this has been used in america

We had one that went up on her toes, reduce the feed of the mare if you can we did and with the vet and farriers help the youngster is fine now its to much good food going in to mum if the foal was not born like this.
Ours was on a field full of quaility grass and t was to much for her

I will be interested to hear updates from you. We are going through this with a native foal, I have said I am not going to "do" the operation, one of his feet came right, then went backwards again, whilst the other foot stayed good. He had the oxytetracycline injections back in July which did seem to help.

Now, we are kind of agressively treating the bad foot. Farrier is coming out weekly and trying to make it go right by remedial shoeing and rasping. We have given the foal till the end of February to come right and if not... :( We shall be heartbroken of course. Even with this gimpy foot, he moves beautifully, and is a joy to have around. It would all be so much easier if he was badly put together, didn't move straight, had stuffy movement etc etc etc.

Good luck! I have never heard about the Botox though, I shall go off and google it.
