tendon injurys

hi im look for some advice of what care a pony with a tendon injury will be and what the long term care is all i no is the pony is 10 and hasnt been worked in 5 years and he had a slight tendon injury last year be greaful of some help!

Can you find out more about the nature of the injury and what the vets advice was when it happened? Also is the pony sound?
General advice would be to introduce excercise very slowly, initially walk work for a good few weeks, and then gradually increase and see what he can cope with. Any signs of heat or swelling in the injured leg then consult a vet.

I agree with S it will all depend on which tedon was injured and how severe.... but as with any horse which has been out of work for 5 years gentle walking to start with then walking with intermittent trot but not for too long and always check legs after for swelling...good luck

make sure his feet are balanced and kept balanced also - unbalanced feet can put a lot of stress on tendons.

all i no is he was going mad around in his feild with another horse and when they brought him in he had heat and swelling in the leg when the vet came he said he had a mild tendon injury but no box rest followed? it seams he was given no real after care just put in a feild alone so he was quiet. this was a year ago he is balanced and sound.

are you looking to buy this pony? The story doesn't sound quite right to me. I don't think a vet would come out and say "looks like a mild tendon injury" and not recommend box rest or treatment. Daisy had a very mild injury, was only 1/10 lame after hard work yet the vet worked at getting a diagnosis and we had a full aftercare programme

long term loan i dont think it has seen a vet i no it all sounds bit odd but she will be put to sleep other wise
