Has anybody had any experience of a cut adhering to the tendon?? Blade had a tiny wire cut from jumping out of the field 18 months ago which healed up fine, it was only 2cm to start with! just inside his hock. It seemed fine but when he started work the hair raised and he got a small lump, prob about the size of 1/2 a pea where the cut had been. Checked it out and all seemed fine but when he came back from being backed i noticed that he had started snatching his leg up every 10 strides or so, it was worse in walk but couldnt tell at all in canter. I had him at the vets to be castrated and they had to knock him out so I explained the problem and asked them to have a look. They'd already looked but couldnt find anything. When i went to pick him up he told me when he'd had a closer look at the scar it had adhered to the tendon which was why he was snatching his leg up but he didnt want to mess too much because of how delicate it was. He told me to work him as hard as i could and it would work itself away naturally and be easier for blade so I came away with a 2 month supply of bute and started. The 2 months is now up and he's due back at the vets next week but he doesnt seem to have improved at all!! ;-(
He flat out refuses to canter on the right reign with the correct lead, since hes been back he has done this once about 2 days ago, he went half a circuit then pulled himself up and started to snatch up!! i was ready to cry!!! he was showing such promise with dressage but thats on hold now but the main thing is that i dont want him to be uncomfortable!

I am totally out of ideas as to how to make him use this leg, i know when he goes back the vets they will want to keep him in and to be honest i really cant afford it, his castration was only supposed to cost £300 but ended up over £700!!!!

At the end of the day i know his welfare will always come first but wanted to know if anyone has had any experience or has any ideas for what might help. I'd be soooooo grateful!!!

We had a young horse in that had actually had the tendon cut to correct a contracted tendon causing a boxy foot.

This had been allowed to heal but formed a lot of scar tissue. When Ben arrived with us he was 7/8 out of 10 lame very unwilling to move freely.

We introduced a remedial exercise and therapy programme - it did take a few months but gradually he improved. He was eventually sent home sound with only a minimal amount of scar tissue on the tendon. He originally had enough to not allow any definition of the splint bones. He now has a small lump that is only noticable if you look for it.

He is shortly coming back to us to start his education under saddle - not bad for something the owner thought may just be an expensive paddock pet.

Couldn't the vets dissect the scar tissue from the tendon and then put him on an immediate controlled excercise regimen ti try and prevent the scar tissue re-attaching??

He didnt want to operate on it until its the only option because if more damage that can be done, he's going for a check up next week to see how its getting on, hopefully it has improved!
