Tess damaged her SFDT tendon 2 weeks after I got her at the end of July (an old injury that hadn't healed- long story, have posted about in the the past), has been on box rest since then, with walking out in hand for the past couple of weeks. Had her leg scanned again today and my vet was amazed, he said that he never thought we would get it back as good as that and that it would be difficult to tell now where the injury was if you didn't know about it. Also you won't be able to tell by sight, but it will always feel slightly thicker on that one leg cos of the scar tissue.

I just wanted to thank those of you that have given me advice on the injury and the dilemma I had with keeping Tess (again long story), Tess and I have now come through this with a bond which I didn't think we'd get for a long long time as she's straight off a racing yard and has trust issues.

I am so happy I have a horse I can ride again (OK only at walk for the time being but better than nothing!), and want to say to anyone in a similar situation be patient, you will get through it. PLus, I have to say that I fed Tess Tendonease by the bucketload and I'm convinced that it has helped her recovery tremendously. We had no other therapy other than cold hosing (not even bute cos initially the plan was to send her back). Her injury wasn't that severe, although it was bad enough that at one point my vet suggested she would oly be good as a brood mare (but he is renowned for being mr doom and gloom!).

Anyway, thanks again, and I'm sure I'll be bombarding you with posts now for help on how to cope with riding a box-resting horse!

So pleased is a good outcome

Great news Having been through tendon issues I know how stressy it is for ex racer. The same company that did your tendoneaze also do a product for bringing them back into work .You can google global herbs and find it on line. They do a chill out called turnout that might help when he can go back to his field.

Well done and keep up the good work! My cob did a tendon last jan and was given a 40% chance of recovering soundness - however he has been sound since May and the vet has just given us the go ahead to start jumping again!
The best thing you said was to be patient - time is the best healer.

Yes time is a great healer. I have had a couple of racehorses in the past that "broke down" and ended up with thick tendons, one was pin fired and went on to win another race!
That was in the late eighties/early nineties so I am sure more is known about treatments now. Good luck and well done, I'm sure you will have many happy years ahead.
