would you beleive it my lovely boy has done a tendon in back leg just above his feltock had vet out he might be off 8 weeks has anyone else had an injury like this in back leg not front .

My mare had a tendon injury this time last year. Dont know how she did it but a friend had ridden her and said she was fine when she put her back in the stable and I have no reason to disbelieve her.

When I got to the yard later that day I took her out of stable and she was literally on three legs. I have never seen a horse in so much pain :-( she was so bad I really did think that it was the end of her riding days.

Her tendon was swollen but more particularly around the fetlock area.

With intravenous painkiller for the first 2 days and then Danilon for the following 10 she was box rested for a week (not bandaged up) and hosed 3 times a day and had magnetic boots on whilst in (not overnight). After 6 weeks (out during the day for about 4-5 hours but in at night, I had her scanned to put my mind at rest that nothing was too detrimental. She was still very swollen but more around the fetlock than up her tendon but thank goodness nothing was torn etc. The vet did a flexion test and she miraculously trotted up sound (much to his surprise!) but still swollen. Vet said to give her another 10 days before getting back on board.

Thank goodness after being back into work very slowly she has been sound since but it took about 8 weeks to get her right.

I hope this gives you some hope and that your boy/girl has a good prognosis.

thankyou so much the vet said to me 8 weeks but we will scan in 2 weeks how much is the scan my boy is insured its broken my heart.
