Took Fly to our first show together outside yesterday. Firstly he wouldn't load (whats that all about??) and then when we got there he would not settle at all. When I tacked up and tried to ride him round the practice ring he bucked, squealed and ignored me to the extent I gave up and lunged him by the lorry for 15 mins. Tried again, thought we were getting somewhere then he refused the practice jump and ended up landing on it cutting his leg. NIGHTMARE!!!! Got him settled to a point I was reasonably happy with but he was not right. Oh, dear, very depressing.....................

Sounds like it is lack of exposure on his part, and prob nerves/excitement on your part that he picked up on, hence the loading issue.

Only advice is to take him everywhere and anywhere - good luck!

I agree, get him out as much as you can too different shows. I wouldn't be concerned if you took him any classes just let him see things. I took both my mares to 1 show last year, it was my youngsters first show and every time I tried to separate them she went vertical, to the extent I was comming out the back of the saddle. This year, now we have transport we are just going to as much as possible, and play it by ear as depending on her bahaviour. There has only been one so far and she coped with all the horse, the boxes, the stands, people and had a go round the clear round, that was enough for the day so we took her home.
