I wasnt going to jump Flint- but a friend coaxed me into it on friday. Hired the arena out and he was happily and very quietly going round a course of 1m (we measured it cus I said it was HUGE! lol- it wasnt!)

Sunday comes and I thought I wont jump him tomorrow in the clear round I will go in the 90 on bsja day.
Class was to start at 9 so I got him ready early, pulled him out the stable and toddled off to the warm up- WTF- there were already 30 odd people in the warm up! GREAT!
Warming up with an ever increasing number of competitors, being on a little horse didnt help being bashed around as I was yelled at to get out the way! I didnt know where this person from a well known family expected me to go as I was going round the outside track against the fence following the left to left rule that some partake in!

45 mins later I still hadnt jumped- by the hour I was in the ring- woosh off we go- que broncs!
Got to the first nice and steady- and we are off- full pelt to the 2nd, tight hair pin turn to the 3rd which was a one stride double- could of got 3 strides to it- we managed 2 before fire rocket in his arse proppelled him off the ground... landed 2 short, tried to put two small strides in, by that time he was on top of the second part- CRASH! Que me hanging off his head- him spinning in circles!

SO took him on the other rein to the first part again and what does he do... tries to jump it like a break neck team chasing- so I hauled him up and retired. I was quite disapointed by it all so took him back into the warm up to pop a few... 1m 05 ish oxer and upright, quite a few times, hit every stride perfect and was clean jumping! TYPICAL!!
Course was terrible walking it so dont know how we would of fared if we had gone all the way round- will say out of 60 starters- only TWO had double clears in it!!

Sounds like the boy was feeling very jolly after having been in an over crowded warm up ring

It's great news to hear that he was going very nicely up to that point, so you must have been thrilled with him? Don't lose heart because of this one crap outing, I think Flint was just enjoying the moment (a bit too much

Oh dear ,glad we didn't come,I had to work .
Take your time to get his confidence back ,you are in the perfect place to hire and practice. There is no rush and something happened to him while he was away from you and it will take time to repair.Good luck

Well hey at least you stayed on whilst in public and didn't end up flat on your face in the arena like me!! Sounds like a pretty bad day though, think there was something in the air yesterday!

If it makes you feel better I had an even worse time at South View in a scope qualifier. Was going really well and then we got to the water tray, had a bit of a stutter off the floor and suddenly we were airborne except she felt the need to jump twice the height of the fence and somersault me through the air and I landed on my head! Very embarasing!

You were prob pumped full of adrenaline and he fed off you - naughty Flint.

Re: the collecting ring yelling, what pace were you in? If you were in walk then you should have been on the inside track, not outside

FWIW I hate collecting rings!
