Get some tea tree shampoo (about £1 from wilkinsons, asda etc), wash as normal but leave the shampoo on for about 20 mins before washing out. Do it every few days for about 2 weeks, im almost certain you will have a flake free tail
i`ve just used fairy washing up liquid.cuts through grease and kind for your hands.maybe a little conditioner after, just cheapy stuff works fine.dry a little before combing out.ooh, remember to rinse well!
As others say, use Tea Tree Shampoo (I got my horsey stuff from Tesco with matching conditioner) or any anti-dandruff shampoo would help. Follow up with a conditioner and leave it in for 5 minutes before washing out very thoroughly.
I have successfully cured this problem in the past!
First of all wash the tail in washing up liquid (especially the dock). Work the liquid in really well so that all grease is removed right down to the skin. You make need to give it two washes.
Then, apply some Nizorel (I think that is what its called (- from Boots for severe dandruff)) to the dock and work it right down to the skin. Leave this in for at least five minutes. Then rinse thoroughly.
Then comb out the tail (having applied some conditioner to get the tangles out) using a very fine tooth comb (eg childrens nit comb). You need to section the tail at the dock so that you can clear the remaining loose skin from the roots.
As someone said earlier, you should apply some moisturing lotion after to prevent the skin overdrying and causing more flakes.
If the problem is severe, you will probably need to repeat this on a regular basis, but otherwise his tail should stay fairly clear of flakes!
