Well owners have to be really naive to think that anyone can find 'good homes' for up to 120 out of racing racehorses!!!! Personally I would imagine that most owners knew exactly what was happening but just wanted rid. If they didn't then they should have paid for re-schooling so that the horses had half a chance of finding a decent home.

There isn't much detail in the story... I would imagine most of the owners had a pretty good idea where their ex-racehorses were headed, which is where quite a significant proportion must end up.

Better to end up in the slaughterhouse than being passed around from pillar to post as yet another numpty decides to "rescue" an ex-racehorse and doesn't know how to deal with it...

If the owners of those racehorses were so concerned about the future of their horses IMHO they should have secured the homes for themselves. That's the only way you can ever be sure of what happens to your horse.

Retire your own damn horses - if you enjoyed their good years, then pay for their old years.

And if you choose to abdicate responsibility by handing your animal over to a stranger, then you can't pretend to be morally outraged at the consequences.

Completely and utterly agree, retire them at home or take responsibility and pts - do not sell or loan them on to a uncertain future.

Totally agree with you both, people need to take responability and deal with it not pass the buck!!
Its always the poor horse that suffers and has to pay for people's mistakes...
