I have a beautiful jack russell cross yorkshire terrier. He is lovely but around some people he can be really nasty, I think he sounds worse than he is but its embarrasing. Also he doesn't ever stop barking, we have used every trick in the book, and used all the advice that was on its me or the dog, but nothings works. I think he is just too spoilt and my mum doesnt follow through with the punnishments, any ideas?

to some extent he is just being a terrier - along with the Spitz group this type of dog is very likely to yap plus they are often a bit sharp. This is the reason that many terriers breeds are no longer as popular as they once were ( when did you last see a Fox/Welsh/Irish/Skye etc terrier !).

You could try putting him put of the room everytime he is noisy - dogs hate being excluded and he may begin to connect barking with being deprived of your company. Or get a small tin filled with stones and throw it to the floor whenever he yaps ( not at him

) he may then begin to asociate the sudden shock/noise with barking. Do NOT be tempted to shout at him - this will just make him worse "Oh good mum's joining in " !.

I would be zero tolerent about him being 'nasty' to people - he may be small but this is totally unacceptable - remove him instantly if he even grumbles at folk - no fuss- no picking up just "not acceptable you're OUT "

have some tasty traets to hand and if he behaves well i.e is quiet and good around people then reward him instantly ( you could combine this with a clicker sound to reinforce the message - good luck
